As part of our wedding photo package, we also got a session for engagement pictures.  For that, we met with a photographer in an older part of Dallas where there was a sunken-garden-type area.  Very wooded and green, it provided nice backgrounds and places for us to pose as a new, young, happy couple.

We posed on stairs, sat on benches, and did various poses that were meant to just show us in a happy mood.  We would look at the camera, or look at each other, and the photographer would snap away.

I think we took on the order of 600 pictures in the space of a couple hours.  He would spend a few minutes looking around, explaining the shot to us, then we'd do our best to smile while he took a bunch of pictures.  We'd end up with 10 or 20 that were approximately the same, but subtle differences like how open our eyes were, or the exact expression in the smile would make the pictures vary slightly.

A few days after the shoot we picked up the pictures and began looking through them.  We needed to pick out a few for them to edit, but we got all the originals to edit ourselves.  I looked on our photographer's website at how they had edited some (changing them to black & white or monochromatic palettes), and made some edits myself.  I think they turned out well, and the price couldn't be beat.

We went back some time later to meet with the photographers and have them touch up the ones we had picked out.   They did a fine job, and it was very nice to have some good pictures of ourselves for our families to have.
