Cleaning Technology
2/7/01 - Well it's been a week since my last update to this page, so I thought maybe I should update it with something. If only I had something to write about. Oh yes, I'll write about cleaning.
I've spent the last couple of hours cleaning up the apartment I live in currently, and I can tell you straight up I hate it. Now I don't hate it as much as some people *coughroomate*, but I don't enjoy it. And it doesn't seem to ever get any easier. Years go by and computers get faster, people get smarter, cars get faster, buildings get bigger, and things advance in modern society. But to clean the carpet you still have to vacuum using basically the same technology. I realize the vacuum cleaner itself was a great invention, but it hasn't significantly changed in the past several decades.
The only real way to get out of cleaning the old fashion way is to hire a maid. Now call me crazy but I doubt the maid even enjoys cleaning. She enjoys getting paid, but she would gladly do something else if she could. This is why we need robot maids.
I know what you're thinking. No, I'm not talking about some robot out of the Jetsons, or some other type of android. I don't think I'd like something like that, even if they did exist. What I would like to see is something the size of a beach ball that roamed around the house vacuuming and cleaning the floors when I wasn't around to hear it work. I've seen these automatic lawn mowers that recharge themselves and can mow a whole yard in a day. That's all I want, but for inside the house. If I'm home all weekend, it doesn't have to work, but when I leave for work or school or whatever, I'd like it to pop out of it's box and go around the house getting the floors all nice and neat. I wouldn't mind emptying its bin full of junk, and replacing it's water and soaps or whatever, as long as I don't have to spend so much time myself keeping the house clean. Now I realize this thing wouldn't be able to dust or wash windows or clean counters, but those things never seem to be as much of a hassle as doing the floors.
Maybe I'm just lazy. Maybe I should see cleaning as a way to relax, and think about things. Maybe I'll go
jump off a bridge. I think a maid is sounding better and better all the time. If only I could afford it.
